About

After serving on the Texas Board of Education, this Republican Party politician represented her state's ninth and twelfth districts in the Texas Senate. In January 2023, she became the 115th Secretary of State of Texas. 

Before Fame

After graduating from North Texas State University, she worked in both business and education before beginning her political career.

Trivia

During her time in the Texas Senate, she championed bills related to women's and children's physical and mental health. She once served as chair of the Sunset Advisory Commission.

Family Life

A native of Hamilton, Ohio, she later settled in Flower Mound, Texas. Her marriage to Mike Nelson resulted in five children.
