Best remembered as the star of the popular Here's Harry comedy series of the 1960s, this British comedian also played leading roles in the early 1980s sitcom How's Your Father? and in the 1970s radio program Thirty Minutes Worth.

Before Fame

He and his ten brothers and sisters grew up in South Yorkshire, England, where, during his teenage years, he trained as a ventriloquist. After spending nearly a decade as a miner, he served in the Royal Air Force.

He began his career as an entertainer at the famous Windmill Theatre in London, England.

Family Life

His marriage to Kay Flynn lasted from 1947 until his 1989 death from cancer. He was survived by a daughter named Jobyna.
