A German author and illustrator of children's books, he is best known for series such as Bunny Trouble and Tyrone the Horrible. During his lifetime, he saw more than 40 million copies of his works in print.

Before Fame

Born in Germany, he spent over a decade in South Africa, where he worked as an artist and an actor. He subsequently went on a three-year-long trip around the world that inspired him to become an author.

Trivia

His Waldo and Trapp Family Book series were both turned into television shows.

Family Life

He was born and raised in Bremen, Germany. His wife, Judy Henderson, worked as a ceramics artist.
