Family Life

Her first marriage, to an abusive war veteran named William Everett Hardy, resulted in her only child, a son named William Everett Hardy. She later married a Georgia-born farmer named Walter Guy Spann; the couple's marriage lasted from 1950 until her death in 2012.

Her brother Jimmy Carter, a Democrat, served as the United States' thirty-ninth president and was later awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
