American composer and conductor known for his nearly 300 film and television scores. His first soundtracks were featured in the films of Stanley Kubrick, and he would go on to compose pieces for popular television shows such as Mission Impossible, Gilligan's Island, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Shotgun Slade, and Roots.

He attended a specialized arts and music high school before attending The Juilliard School of Music.

He and his wife Judith had five children, one passing away at a young age.
