George Spartels

About

Most well known for his portrayal of Benito Alessi on the Australian soap opera Neighbours, he is also famous as a host (from 1985 until 1999) of the Gold Logie-winning Australian children's television program Play School.

Before Fame

Early in his career, he appeared in episodes of the television series Matlock Police and Division 4.

Trivia

He had recurring roles on Packed to the Rafters (as Theo Karandonis); Sweet and Sour (as Nick Poulopoulos); and Prisoner: Cell Block H (as Herbie).

Family Life

Born in Australia to a family of both Greek and English descent, he was married for over twenty years to actress Elizabeth Alexander, with whom he raised two children. After divorcing Alexander in 2006, he married Mary Spartels.

Associated With

Playing the role of Blackfinger, Spartels appeared with Mel Gibson in the 1985 action movie Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.
