George Jean Nathan

An American writer, editor, and drama critic, he helped bring the magazine, The Smart Set, to prominence. He also edited The American Mercury.

Before Fame

He graduated from Cornell University and worked as an editor for the Cornell Daily Sun. Upon his graduation, he became a New York-based theater critic.

Family Life

He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana. A well-known ladies' man, he finally married Julie Haydon, an actress many years his junior, in 1955.
