George Helm

About

Remembered for both his acclaimed career as a falsetto singer and for his political activism on behalf of the anti-military, Protect Kahoʻolawe ʻOhana cause, he disappeared while on a 1977 mission to rescue fellow activists on the island of Kahoʻolawe.

Before Fame

While studying at St. Louis High School on the Hawaiian island of Oʻahu, he received both vocal music and guitar training.

Trivia

During the mid-1970s, he spoke eloquently in front of the United States Congress, calling for an end to the U.S. Navy's use of Kaho'olawe as a site for bombing practice.

Family Life

He was a native of Kalamaʻula, Molokaʻi, Hawaii.

Associated With

He and legendary surfer Eddie Aikau both became Hawaiian youth heroes.
