From 1983 until 2009, this Republican Party politician served Illinois' 51st district in the State Senate, holding the positions of Assistant Majority Leader (during the late '90s and early '00s) and Senate Republican Leader (from 2002 to 2008).

Before Fame

After earning his bachelor's degree from Purdue University, he became the chief pharmacist at his family's drugstore in Greenville, Illinois.

He resigned from the Illinois Senate in 2009 following a stroke.

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he later settled in Illinois with his wife Susan.

In 2003, Watson voiced his opposition to Governor Rod Blagojevich's idea of mortgaging Chicago's James R. Thompson Center to alleviate Illinois' budget deficit.
