Emily Haines

About

Famous for her work with the Canadian rock bands Metric and Broken Social Scene, this soprano vocalist also created a solo act called Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton. Her albums with Metric include Live It Out, Fantasies, and Synthetica.

Before Fame

She and guitarist James Shaw became romantically involved in 1997 and quickly formed a music group, Mainstream, that they later renamed Metric. Metric released its first album, Old World Underground, Where Are You Now?, in 2003.

Trivia

She recorded her first solo album, Knives Don't Have Your Back, in 2006.

Family Life

Born in New Delhi, India, as the daughter of Canadian-American poet Paul Haines, she grew up in Ontario, Canada, with a sister named Avery and a brother named Tim.

Associated With

She met fellow singer and future Broken Social Scene collaborator Amy Millan while both were students at Toronto's Etobicoke School of the Arts.
