Before Fame

He grew up in Texas and began playing the piano as a way to escape the abuse of his alcoholic father. By the time he was in his teens, he had already toured the U.S. and Europe as a pianist.

He met his wife Debbie while they were both students at the Peabody Conservatory of Music.
