Prolific composer who worked mainly in TV and film, but began focusing on classical and jazz composition in 2000. His first film score was for "Divorce American Style" from 1967.

Before Fame

His music studies took place at the University of Colorado at Boulder from which he graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1956.

Trivia

He composed the theme songs for "It Takes a Thief," "Maude," "Baretta," "St. Elsewhere," "The Name of the Game," and other classic American TV shows.

Family Life

His father Henri was a Latvian immigrant and a violinist, and his mother, Rosabelle, was a pianist.

Associated With

He scored the 1975 political thriller "Three Days of the Condor," starring Robert Redford.
