First Holy Roman Emperor of the Salian dynasty who reigned from 1027 until his death in 1039. He is known for holding the titles of King of Germany, King of Italy, and King of Burgundy, and for his administrative reforms, military campaigns, and the expansion of the Holy Roman Empire.

Before Fame

His father died when he was young, so he inherited his father's titles of Count of both Speyer and Worms. He was elected King of Germany after the death of Emperor Henry II in 1024. He was crowned Holy Roman Emperor by Pope John XIX on March 26, 102.

Family Life

He was born in Speyer, in the Duchy of Franconia, in what is modern-day Germany. He was the son of Henry of Speyer and Adelaide of Metz. He married Gisela of Swabia in 1016. They had three children together. He died from gout on June 4th, 1039.
