He performed in numerous plays at his Tennessee high school. He later attended both the University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa and the University of Southern California.

He had roles on the science fiction series Automan and on the soap opera General Hospital.

He married Susan Wagner in 1982; the couple had two children.
