Writer whose autobiographical and humorous works include The Egg and I and the Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle children's book series. She is also known for Who, Me? and Onions in the Stew.

Before Fame

She was born in Boulder, Colorado and spent her childhood in Butte, Montana and Seattle, Washington.

Trivia

She was diagnosed with tuberculosis and was treated in a Seattle sanitarium during the late 1930s. She died two decades later of a gynecological cancer.

Family Life

She married first husband Robert Eugene Heskett in 1927; the couple divorced four years and two daughters later. In 1942, she wed Donald C. MacDonald; they settled first on an island off the coast of Washington state, and later, in central California.

She and fellow author David Wagoner were both based in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States.
