Bernie Bierman

About

Legend of the University of Minnesota football program, he coached the Golden Gophers to five national championships in the 1930s and '40s.

Before Fame

He went from using crutches due to a debilitating childhood disease to becoming a star three-point shooter in high school and at UM.

Trivia

His Golden Gophers went undefeated, with a national championship five times in his first ten years, earning him a place in the College Football Hall of Fame.

He was married to Clara McKenzie Bierman.
