Before Fame

He studied at St. Aloysius College, and learned sculpture from William Behnes.

Trivia

He was appointed assistant superintendent of the Great Exhibition of 1851 in London.

Family Life

He married Mary Selina Green in 1826 and they had six children.

He was commissioned to make sculptures for New York City's Central Park, which Frederick Olmstead designed.
