He got his start directing music videos for King & Country, a Christian pop duo formed by his brothers Joel and Luke Smallbone.

His 2022 film, Johnny Cash: The Redemption of an American Icon, follows Cash's later life. He has directed over 20 credits throughout his ongoing film career. 

Family Life

His sister is singer Rebecca St. James. He and Paige Smallbone were married in May 2005. They have two children.
