Before Fame

He first heard Muscle Shoals, also called The Swampers, while attending college in Alabama.

Trivia

He co-produced Bob Dylan's classic 1979 album Slow Train Coming with Jerry Wexler. He also played piano and organ on the album. He returned to co-produce Saved, Dylan's 1980 album.

Family Life

His father was an insurance salesman and an aspiring guitar player who in his spare time hosted a local radio show.
