About

Award-winning Azerbaijani poet, dramatist, and professor whose work addressed the Algerian Independence Movement. His poetry collections include My Friends, Eternal Statue, and Roots and Branches; his plays include Cry and Where is the World Going.

Before Fame

He earned a degree in Philology from the Azerbaijan State University in 1947. Two years later, he published his first poetry collection, Menim Dostlarım (My Friends).

Trivia

He was named to the prestigious Istiglal Order by the President of Azerbaijan in 1995.

Family Life

He moved from Nukha to Baku with his family at age nine. He died in Baku at the age of eighty-three.

Associated With

He wrote his doctoral thesis on the work of fellow Azerbaijani poet Samad Vurgun.
