Austin Mitchell

British Labour party politician who began serving in Parliament in 1977. He has stirred controversy with his misogynistic twitter posts. He was also a photographer and co-authored Parliament in Pictures: Inside the House of Commons and the House of Lords, a photography book.

Before Fame

He was a professor at the University of Otago in New Zealand and at the University of Canterbury and also worked as a journalist for Yorkshire Television and the BBC.

In October of 2012, he was embroiled in a controversy regarding a tweet he directed at former MP Louise Mensch.

Family Life

He married Linda McDougall in 1976 and had two sons. He also had two daughters in his previous marriage.

He served in the Labour Party under Ed Milibrand, who was also involved in the Twitter scandal.
