Gussie Busch

About

Anheuser-Busch chairman from 1946 until 1975 and grandson of founder Adolphus. He owned the St. Louis Cardinals from 1953 until his death.

Before Fame

He worked for the family business as the general superintendent of brewing operations and was the first to use the Clydesdale team as a company logo.

Trivia

He presided over some of the Cardinals' most successful years, winning six National League championships and three World Series.

Family Life

He married Alice Edna Zisemann, who later donated $70,000 to purchase a memorial for her husband. He and Alice had a son named August Busch III.

Associated With

His father commemorated the end of Prohibition, courtesy of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, by investing in the first Budweiser Clydesdales.
