Attia Sharara

About

Composer, violinist, conductor, and member of Egypt's second generation of classical composers. He was noted for his monodic music, which he began composing around 1950.

Before Fame

He studied music at the Fuad I Institute for Traditional Music. He played with the orchestras that served as accompaniment for Mohamed Abdel-Wahab and Umm Kulthum.

Trivia

He composed one operetta, "The Crystal Ball," during his career.

Family Life

His son Hassan Sharara was also a violinist and conductor.

Associated With

He became prominent in Egypt around the same time as actor Omar Sharif.
