Andres Escobar

About

Colombian soccer player who accidentally scored a goal on his own team during the 1994 World Cup and was tragically murdered shortly after, allegedly in connection with the incident. He played on 3 different teams throughout his senior playing career.

Trivia

A Colombian cartel bodyguard confessed to his murder, which was believed to have been punishment for losing gambling syndicates money due to his own goal that eliminated Colombia from the World Cup. Following his death, his family founded the Andrés Escobar Project to help kids with disadvantages learn to play soccer.

He was raised with a brother named Santiago Escobar.

There was much speculation that Columbian drug lord Pablo Escobar played a role in his death.
