Alice Randall

About

An American writer and country songwriter, she is best known for The Wind Done Gone (2001), a book that parodies Gone with the Wind. Her other published works include Pushkin and the Queen of Spades (2004) and Rebel Yell (2009).

Before Fame

She studied English and American literature at Harvard University, graduating with honors in the early 1980s. She later became a writer-in-residence at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Trivia

She publicly claimed that she was the first African American woman to co-write a number one country song.

Family Life

She was born in Detroit, Michigan, and she grew up in Washington, D.C. She married David Ewing, an attorney, in 1997.

She wrote a parody of Margaret Mitchell's famous novel, Gone with the Wind.
