Lead alto saxophonist in the Paul Whiteman Orchestra. He taught music at Hartwick College shortly before his death.

Before Fame

He started playing clarinet as a child and performed for the first time at Birmingham's Lyric Theatre before switching to saxophone.

Trivia

He was invited to play on New York's WJZ radio station in 1947 and performed there for twenty years.

Family Life

He was married, but his wife Mary passed away in 1985.

Associated With

He performed on the soundtrack for Rhapsody in Blue, a 1945 film about George Gershwin.
