His 1929 hymn 'I'll Fly Away' struck a nerve and became one of the nation's most popular songs. It would go on to be covered by Johnny Cash, The Chuck Wagon Gang, Alan Jackson, Jars of Clay, and George Jones, to name a few.

Trivia

He founded the Albert E. Brumley Sundown to Sunup Gospel Sing in Springdale, Arkansas, in 1969.

Family Life

He grew up on a farm in Oklahoma, chopping and picking cotton before finding professional success. He and Goldie Edith Schell wed in 1931. His son Tom Brumley worked as a country music guitarist.
