Albert Azaryan

About

Soviet Armenian artistic gymnast who competed on the still rings at the 1956 and 1960 Olympics, winning gold in both. He became an Olympic Champion in rings twice and was the first to do so. 

Before Fame

He worked as an ironsmith at the age of 14 to support his family.

Trivia

He trained with Armenian gymnasts at the age of 17. An Armenian stamp was printed of him in his honor in 2009. 

Family Life

His son, Eduard Azaryan, also became a gymnast and a 1980 Olympian.

Associated With

He and Olga Korbut were both gymnasts from Soviet Russia.
