She was born with Fraser syndrome, a genetic malfunction that causes her eyelids to be sealed shut. Many of the videos on her YouTube page are hosted by her adoptive parents. Some also show the family's attempts to develop a therapy room.

Her adopted parents are Joe and Karen Bartling. She has siblings Hannah, David, Bethany, Jesse, and Obed.
